Sell your house quicker with stylish design

3 design ideas to showcase your property

If you’re thinking of letting or selling your property in the immediate future, you’re no doubt very concious of smartening it up in order to showcase it at its very best. Yes of course there are all the old tricks of baking bread, putting vases of sweet smelling flowers in every room and hiding piles of smelly trainers. But actually your starting point really should be your decor.

So how do you achieve a look that’s cosy and welcoming, but also neutral and with at least a nod to being on trend? Well here’s 3 ideas that I came across recently that I think help you do just that. What’s more, you’ll still love living in these rooms while you get ready to move to your new home.

  1. The Faux effect

home sale tips Whether it’s a couple of leather chairs, faux effect wall paper or just a few additional pieces like faux leather lamps or cushions, it’s a style that’s fairly easy to achieve. It’s also a look that’s very on trend at the moment and it enables you to give a room that’s in neutral shades of cream, a touch of style and a little personality. A win, win.

2. Hues of blues

Midnight blue is a very popular colour at the moment so you could use it as a feature wall or in your accessories such as lamps, curtains, cushions or throws. Or mix it with other shades of blue for a neutral but cool effect.

3. A bit of rough with the smooth

desk-932474_1920It feels like only yesterday that exposed brick or wood was in fashion and then out of fashion again. But it’s back once more. An exposed brick wall (properly done and not just an unfinished DIY job), exposed beams, wooden mantel pieces or just super stylish wooden accessories such as a beautiful wooden table are all it takes to bring your room up to date. Mix the look with cool colours, cottons and silks to give it a professional looking finish.

A few other tips

If you are getting ready to rent or sell a property, do take the time to give it a fresh lick of paint, keep it clean and tidy and declutter. Drying stands, stacks of paperwork and prams left in the hall are all a no because they suggest a lack of space. But don’t hide so much, that the property looks completely lacking in personality.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms, so if you have any budget at all, refresh and update it. Even if it’s just a case of putting new cupboard fronts on, it can make a difference.

Finally, keep the windows clean and light up any dark corners with lamps. Consider using mirrors to help reflect light and keep the property looking nice. Flowers, a roaring fire or a fruit bowl might be enough.

So that’s just a quick guide to what’s popular and what you need to do. If you are thinking of selling or renting your property and would like some advice on how to show it off, why not get in contact. It’s those little finishing touches that you don’t always think of when you’re living somewhere, that can make all the difference between a viewing and an offer.

Guess who is the most trusted estate agent in Dorking!

Guess who is the most trusted estate agent in Dorking!

Just for a minute may I blow my own trumpet whilst thanking you at the same time?

ewe-conf-l-2016-154Back in August I was presented with the “Most Trusted Estate Agent” award by TV personality and EweMove brand ambassador Carol Smillie. I was chuffed to bits as you can imagine, not least because it’s an award that is based on customer reviews left by happy customers on the independent review website So in other words, it’s based on your feedback.

I wanted to say thank you but I also want to do a bit more. Going that extra mile is a key part of the EweMove ethos and so if there are any other ways you think I can improve how I work with you, please let me know. Carole Smillie is lovely and I’d like to meet her again next year so that means, I’ve got to keep getting better and better.

What you may not know about EweMove

I joined the team at EweMove back in 2013 not least because I was attracted to their new “hybrid” approach. And that’s good news for you too because it means:house-wall-113541

  2. Letting Agent
  3. Property Management Agent
  • And we’ve won numerous Times/Sunday Times Estate and Letting Agency Awards for for Innovation, Best Newcomer Estate Agency, Best Estate Agency Franchise and Best Estate Agency to Work For.
  • We’ve even published a book to help homeowners move called ‘The 39 Steps to Avoid a House Sale Nightmare’. It retails at £9.95 and can be purchased on Amazon. ISBN-13 978-0993225406.

Before I sign off, here’s just one of the testimonials which helped EweMove win the award.

“Mine was not an easy sell: lovely house, great garden, but ‘challenging’ area – and that’s an understatement. Two other local agents actually told me it was unsellable…The EweMove whole process was slick, efficient and assured.

Throughout the process Graham proved himself a consummate professional, was always available by email or by phone, kept me bang up to date with feedback, developments and progress, and even managed to remain upbeat and positive when I started flagging!

I still can’t believe it only took 5 months to sell (I was expecting a couple of YEARS, literally), and just 5 weeks for the sale to go through (kudos to the solicitor). I can’t recommend him and Ewemove highly enough. I’ve moved several times over the years and this has been by far and away the most positive and least stressful experience of them all. Worth every single penny of the fee, which you’ll find is a lot cheaper than the average high street agent.”
